NATURE OF TYPICAL WASTEWATER ODOURS

ODOURS are generated during the conveyance and treatment of wastewater due to the degradation of organic matter by micro-organism under anaerobic conditions.

The range of odorous constituents in such biogenic odours is very wide and they include:

Hydrogen sulphide, ammonia , thiols and other organic sulphur compounds, mercaptans, amines, indole and skatole, volatile fatty acids and a wide range of organic compounds produced by anaerobic fermentation.

TREATMENT

TREAT ODOUR PROBLEMS for ODOUR ONLY AFTER REMOVAL of IDENTIFIED HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS

Performance of Odour control Systems are determined by odour removal efficiency in odour concentration units (ou/cu.m) and measured according to MS 1963 : 2007 (BS EN 13725: 2003)

In the BIORID® Pre-scrubber section, hazardous chemicals and solid contaminants are removed from the odorous gases.

The gases, which are now pre-cleaned, humidified and cooled but still odorous, are then passed on to the BIORID® Biofilter where the biological processes will reduce the odour concentration units down to an acceptable final emission level.

This biological odour treatment is characterised by the ability of the selected micro-organism to transfer unwanted contaminants into harmless end products.

ODOUR ABATEMENT PERFORMANCE

Performance of Odour Abatement System are determined by Odour Abatement Efficiency in Odour Concentration units (OU/cu.m) and measured according to MS 1963 : 2007 or
BS EN 13725 : 2003 Air Quality – Determination of Odour Concentration by dynamic olfactometry.

Odour Abatement Efficiency of BIORID Odour Treatment Plant.

Ninety percent (90%) Odour Removal Efficiency for Inlet Odour loads of 10,000 OU/cu.m or more or Less than 1,000 OU/cu.m at Outlet Discharge for Inlet odour loads of less than 10,000 OU/cu.m.
